What Is The Best Way To Please God?
The thought of God’s approval is super important in the life of a Christian. Is it based on what we say or do—what about how we think? What is the best way to please God? The key to pleasing God is faith. Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith, it is impossible to please God. Whoever comes to Christ must believe that he is real and that he rewards those who sincerely try to find him.
How do you please God?
The Bible mentions two men who avoided death and were taken to heaven, Enoch and Elijah. Both were great men of faith. Before taking Enoch, scripture tells us that he was a man who pleased God. As a result, he entered heaven without ever meeting death.
According to Hebrews 11:1, faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. So the best way to please God is to put your faith into action. We all have faith, but we may be putting it in the wrong things. We trust that our bed won’t collapse when we lay down and that our front door won’t randomly fall off the hinges. Why can’t we place that same confidence—if not more in God?
Why is pleasing God important?
Satisfying the Lord is more than being “a good person.” Despite your good deeds or heartfelt sacrifices, you cannot please God without faith. Many Christians mistake religious activity for faith. Pleasing God is essential because it impacts your relationship with Christ and others. Proverbs 16:7 says, when you live to please the Lord, even your enemies will be at peace with you. Most importantly, this is indeed how to worship him. We are to be a living and holy sacrifice.
You can’t please God and others. If you want to please people, even yourself, you can’t also be a servant of Christ. Prioritizing the tangible things of the world can be a dangerous trap because they don’t have eternal value. Carnal desires can only satisfy the flesh. If your sinful nature still controls you, you can never please God. But there is freedom In Christ. The best way to honor our Heavenly Father is by surrendering to the Spirit. When you live following the Spirit, the Spirit controls your thinking, and there is life and peace.
How can I honor God daily?
You can do many things to please God every day. Some of the most common examples include:
- Be joyful, and never stop praying. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
- Spend time in God’s word. (Joshua 1:8)
- Practice gratitude. (Psalm 107:1)
- Do everything as if you’re doing it for the Lord. (Colossians 3:23)
- Take time to worship God. (Psalms 99:5)
- Help others. (Galatians 6:2)
What does the Bible say?
For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts. 1 Thessalonians 2:4
So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant. Galatians 1:10
And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey him and do the things that please him. 1 John 3:22
Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety. Proverbs 29:25
Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28
That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. Romans 8:8
Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them. 2 Timothy 2:4
Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. Colossians 1:10
I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings. Hosea 6:6
Finally
Pleasing God is the ultimate goal in the life of a Christian. It doesn’t mean making yourself a better person through nice deeds, more charitable works, or higher testimony ratings on social media. That’s good for a few extra likes on Instagram and shares on Facebook. But it doesn’t account for what matters most: faith.
We’re called to be a living sacrifice. To be approved by our Heavenly Father, we must put our faith into action. If a brother or sister needs clothes or something to eat, you offer them kind words but don’t help them. Your comments are worthless. It is the same with faith. James 2:14-26 says that if a person claims to have faith but does nothing, their faith is dead. It’s worth nothing to God. What are you doing to please the Lord in your daily life?
