The Purpose Of Life, Is A Life With Purpose

We are called to do more than exist. The purpose of life is to live a life with purpose. So what does that look like, exactly? First, a resolute life glorifies God. Second, it is an existence that reaches outside of our individual needs and strives to leave the world better off than before we came. Finally, it is a life of love.

For some, their goals have always been clear. Just look at John the Baptist! Even in the womb, he was excited about preparing the way for Christ. For others, the journey may be less transparent.

When you don’t know your purpose, life can seem quite daunting. We are overwhelmed with choices daily. However, the only important decisions are the ones that move us closer to our divine objective.

Get To Know The Creator

It isn’t easy to live if you don’t know your true purpose. To understand the intent of something, look no further than its creator. The best way to learn about our creator, God, is to read his word.

A blueprint for life, the Bible has lessons that are still applicable today. When reading, take your time and keep notes on any scriptures that stand out to you. Using bible commentary or a study bible is another helpful way to unlock the text.

It’s interesting; the more you begin to understand God, the clearer you can see yourself. Your gaze shifts from your perspective to His vantage point.

The Great Commission

God has called each one of us to accomplish something in life. Doubt may try to rob us of that sense of peace. So, we must learn to trust what God says about us more than we even trust ourselves.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20

In Matthew 28:16-20, Jesus provides instruction on how to continue in his absence. He tells the apostles that they are to make more disciples, baptize them, and teach them to obey God’s word. As modern-day disciples, Jesus’ last words are also essential to us.

  1. Make more disciples
  2. Baptize believers
  3. Teach others how to obey God’s word

Make More Disciples

It’s time to go fishing! Get involved in the world around you. Find out where you can be of service. How can you inspire those in your community? It may require you to leave your comfort zone, and that’s okay because God is with you. Tell others about him and share your testimony. Your life is your most significant ministry.

Baptize Believers

Baptism signifies unity with the Lord. The Holy Spirit connects us to form one body, the body of Christ. The act of baptism represents a cleansing of sin and the promise of a new life in Christ Jesus. For we were all baptized by one Spirit to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 1 Corinthians 12:13 (NIV)

Teach Others How to Obey God’s Word

Sunday school, sermons, and bible study all provide an opportunity to educate others about Christ. However, if you’re looking for something less formal, encourage meaningful conversations about God with friends and family at your home. Or try discussing your favorite scriptures and what you’ve learned about the importance of obedience.

In the end

A purposeful life exalts God above everything else. Therefore, learning about him by reading the bible is a great way to understand your purpose. As modern-day disciples, we are given the same charge as the original apostles. Make more disciples, baptize them, and teach them to obey God’s word; this is how we can live a life with purpose.
